The 2012 Obama presidential campaign hired Fusion GPS to dig up dirt on Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, the newly released book “Russian Roulette” claimed on Tuesday.
The Obama campaign hid its payments to Fusion GPS through its law firm, Perkins Coie, which is a very similar arrangement that the 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign used.
Fusion GPS is now famous for hiring former British spy Christopher Steele to dig up dirt on Trump and write a dossier, which was unverified.
The Obama for America committee paid Perkins Coie around $3 million during the 2012 election cycle, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission. That’s much less than the $12 million the Clinton campaign paid that same law firm.
