Swamp Drain Continues: Sessions Fires McCabe

By Jeff Charles, Liberty Nation, March 17, 2018

Well, it finally happened.

On Friday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired acting F.B.I. Director Andrew McCabe. In January, McCabe announced that he would be retiring on Sunday. Since January, he had been on a leave of absence.

If McCabe had been allowed to retire, he would have received his full lifetime pension. However, his firing means that he is no longer entitled to receive his retirement benefits.

McCabe was fired because the Inspector General’s office found that he had lied about leaking information to the press. In a statement, Attorney General Jeff sessions stated:

“Pursuant to Department Order 1202, and based on the report of the Inspector General, the findings of the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility, and the recommendation of the Department’s senior career official, I have terminated the employment of Andrew McCabe effective immediately.”

According to Sessions, the Office of Professional Responsibility found that the former F.B.I. official had “made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media.” Moreover, he did not tell the truth about leaking information to the press when he was under oath. The Attorney General’s statement indicated that McCabe had not been truthful about leaking sensitive information on “multiple occasions.” McCabe was scheduled to retire on Sunday.

On Friday, the Inspector General’s office recommended that McCabe be fired because he was not truthful about his decision to leak sensitive information to the media. According to the OPR, McCabe allowed F.B.I. Officials to discuss their investigation into the Clinton Foundation with members of the press. He later lied about this decision under oath.

It seems that McCabe knew his days at the bureau were numbered. It is likely the reason why he decided to announce his retirement in January of this year.

The former F.B.I. Director was a major subject of criticism from the right. He was intimately involved in the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server scandal and the Russia meddling investigation. Many believed that he was part of a plan to exonerate the former secretary of state because his wife had accepted $500,000 in campaign donations from then-Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D), a Clinton ally, during her senatorial run.

McCabe’s behavior also attracted the ire of President Donald Trump. In July 2017, Trump tweeted, “Why didn’t A.G. Sessions replace Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, a Comey friend who was in charge of Clinton investigation?”

Trump’s tweet is indicative of the overall attitude of the White House towards McCabe. On Thursday, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders stated that it was “well documented” that the former acting director had engaged in “troubling behavior.”

There is no doubt that the left will cry foul at McCabe’s firing. The establishment media will probably try to use this incident as proof that the president is guilty of obstruction of justice, collusion with the Russian government, or jaywalking.

Here’s the reality: McCabe was obviously compromised. His behavior reveals a clear bias in favor of the Democrats. It’s the reason he announced his resignation earlier this year. Like former Director James Comey, McCabe appears to be another example of how the bureau has become politicized.

McCabe’s behavior shows that he doesn’t deserve to retire with full benefits. Trump was right — the former acting director deserved to be fired a long time ago. However, McCabe is only one official who has engaged in this type of behavior. Hopefully, further investigations will reveal others who have shown themselves to be biased. Perhaps the swamp will continue to be drained.
