DOJ watchdog says report on Clinton investigation due June 14

The Department of Justice inspector general said Thursday that he expects to release on June 14 a hotly anticipated report on the FBI’s handling of its investigation into Hillary Clinton ahead of the 2016 election.

The announcement, made by DOJ internal watchdog Michael Horowitz in a letter to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), attaches a date to a report that has helped propel President Donald Trump’s attacks on law enforcement officials involved in the ongoing special counsel probe of his ties to Russia. Trump sounded off this week about why the report, originally anticipated for earlier this spring, was “taking so long.”

Horowitz confirmed his scheduled appearance at a June 18 hearing before Grassley’s committee on the forthcoming report in a Thursday letterthat said internal reviews to determine whether anything in the document should be classified were nearly complete.

“[W]e anticipate releasing the report on June 14, 2018,” the inspector general told Grassley.
