White House won’t comment on new Jan. 6 committee Trump subpoena

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre would not comment Friday on the new subpoena calling for former President Donald Trump to testify before the House’s January 6 Select Committee.

The subpoena was first raised during the committee’s final hearing in mid-October but was not formally filed until Friday.

“I’m just going to speak more broadly on this, as we do not comment on any ongoing investigation,” Jean-Pierre responded when asked Friday if Trump should comply with the summons. “The Department of Justice is independent in regards to any investigation.”


Jean-Pierre reminded reporters that President Joe Biden “has spoken to this many times” and claimed that “it is important to get to the bottom of January 6.”
