Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman, 54, sustained injuries in a car crash on Sunday.
Fetterman was driving a Chevrolet Traverse on Interstate 70 in western Maryland when his vehicle rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala heading in the same direction, according to CBS News.
His wife, Gisele Fetterman, was a passenger in the vehicle.
An ambulance transported the senator and his wife, along with the driver of the Impala, to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia following the accident, state police told CBS.
An official investigation into the crash has yet to determine how it came about, according to local NBC Philadelphia affiliate WCAU-TV.
