NPR CEO Falsely Claims She “Has No Editorial Role”

At the “Anti-American Airwaves: Holding the Heads of NPR and PBS Accountable” House hearing, Katherine Maher, the president and CEO of NPR, testified and falsely claimed that “it is critical for NPR’s newsroom to operate with the highest journalistic standards. That means they do their jobs independently, and as CEO I have no editorial role at NPR.”

While it would be “critical for NPR’s newsroom to operate with the highest journalistic standards”, it’s not actually the case.

And whatever Mather’s definition of an “editorial role” may be, she certainly had the power to force out Uri Berliner, an NPR business editor, after he wrote a Free Press editorial critical of her.

Maher’s response to Berliner’s accusations that NPR had become a political monoculture and had failed to report honestly on everything from Hunter Biden’s laptop to Israel’s resistance against Hamas, was to send out and post an essay on NPR attacking …
