The Biden-Trump debate deal has one clear loser: the Commission on Presidential Debates. The consensus had been in for a while among Republicans that the Commission was done. The inflection points were many, but Candy Crowley was on that list, so were her varied successors who decided to stop moderating and start fact-checking and debating. Not to mention actively working behind the scenes to help Hillary Clinton.
But exchanging the Commission on Presidential Debates for CNN with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash is no bargain. Then again the writing was on the wall when the RNC had allowed the usual media talking heads to moderate the GOP primary debates.
