President Joe Biden’s attorneys are in the middle of negotiating with special counsel Robert Hur over terms to interview Biden.
The two sides have been in talks for about a month, according to NBC News. Hur is investigating Biden’s handling of classified documents, which were located in his office at the Penn Biden Center in Washington and at his home in Wilmington.
Negotiations are continuing, and no deal has been reached. The discussions between Hur’s office and Biden’s lawyers include how, when, and where the interview might take place, as well as the scope of the questions, people familiar with the matter said.
An interview with the person at the center of an investigation typically comes toward the end of the process. Biden’s lawyers are inquiring if a sit-down interview between the president and Hur would include questions beyond his vice presidency, preferring to limit the scope, a source said.
