Former President Donald Trump issued a message congratulating new House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) after he was officially selected for the coveted position “Congratulations to Rep. Mike Johnson,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He will be a GREAT ‘SPEAKER.’ MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

This comes after Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) dropped his bid for the Speaker’s gavel Wednesday, only hours after he had secured the GOP nomination for the position.

The former president had made it clear that he was no fan of Emmer’s candidacy; he referred to him as a “Globalist RINO” and said that a vote for him would amount to a “tragic mistake.”

Prior to Johnson officially securing the House Speaker position, Trump made it clear that while he would like for him to be selected, he would not issue an official endorsement, as he “COULD NEVER GO AGAINST ANY OF THESE FINE AND VERY TALENTED MEN.”
